Archive Items

April 4, 2024- Judge Norton wouldn't grant our motion, but we feel someone needs to stand up for the people of Daniel Island so we'll be substituting a small, rapid turnover demonstration smack in the middle of downtown Daniel Island for our original planned demonstration. Read the details https://mailchi.mp/59601203e3ec/speed-dating-for-social-justice-wo-nancy-mace-will-substitute-for-denied-demonstration-on-daniel-is-on-apr-8?e=f71545c879

April 5, 2024 promises to be a busy day for Social Justice. At least four demonstrations are planned around the Lowcountry including Ace Mace demonstration outside the office of Nancy Mace on Daniel Island from 1 to 4 pm, a  demonstration on Hutchison Square in Downtown Summerville. This is the Lowcountry's busiest tourism weekend and a prime opportunity for national witness that we are a real, vital community that is no longer content to stumble forward towards a future as "Confederate Disneyland."

March 29, 2025 Lowcountry Up is Good files suit against the City of Charleston in Federal District Court to obtain court approval for April 5, 2025 demonstration outside the Daniel Island office of Nancy Mace. Read the press release.

March 28 - First "Cadet Mace Tolerates Those Who Do" buttons distributed at Mount Pleasant Town hall skipped by Rep. Nancy Mace. Image of design on right. Try to pick one up at some of the upcoming progressive events in her Congressional district. Mace began her tenure in Congress by voting to impeach lame duck President Trump in 2021, but now she's a believer. As a cadet she subscribed to the Citadel Honor Code which says, "A Cadet will not lie, cheat or steal or tolerate those who do." Mace the first female graduate of the Citadel, whose father was the Commandant of the Citadel has abandoned those core values for a more flexible approach that if Trump can help me get the  Republican nomination for Governor, anything he does is good. Like our Senator Lindsey Graham, who ran against trump in the Republican prirmaries in 2016, the rabid red base has persuaded her to abandon her core values, making a mockery of the Citadel and her fellow cadets.

March 28- Maceless Town Hall Held in Mount Pleasant. Huge, orderly assembly of Citizens demands better reorientation from US Representative Nancy Mace (R, SC-!) in packed Town Hall Meeting in Mount Pleasant. Meeting ends with stirring rendition of America the Beautiful from crowd. Mace dismisses gathering as "fake news" and unsafe, insulting constituents in Mt. Pleasant.

March 17 2025- Application for police permit for Ace Mace- Chimp and Charge Demonstration filed with Charleston PD.

Pettigru Free Speech Defense Reactivates in Charleston, SC - Pettigrew Free Speech Defense (https://www.facebook.com/petigru.free.speech.def) will be reactivated by Lowcountry Up is Good, PAC, Inc. to provide legal cover for resistance Free Speech activities. Attorneys, paralegals and investigators needed.

March 16, 2025- #chsresist hashtag deployed to help local efforts cohere on Blue Sky and other social media outlets.

July 26 DiversCity Update

July 26 DiversCity Update - Bridges over Walls, Rivers towards a Smarter, Better Lowcountry

Fordham Speaking Friday, Noon

Damon Fordham, a member of our Education Working group and one of the leading African American historians in Charleston will be speaking online at Noon Friday as part of the Bridge not Walls lecture series sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Charleston. Fordham brings a complex and deep understanding of the historic forces which have placed us where we are and which indicate how we can avoid losing the progress we have made to groups like Moms for Liberty and Unity City. You can reach  the livestream online at https://www.facebook.com/events/3400599050247713?active_tab=about

Art and Culture Working Group Organizing - Why Unity City Brought Their Money Here

As we’ve worked towards staffing our Art and Culture working group (See our new Art and Culture web page with details) we’ve learned a lot from the people on the front lines of what is clearly a historical culture war at the heart of why Unity City’s backers chose to invest hundreds of Thousands of  Dollars in a colonial city in a red state. To bolster their claim that the US was at its founding and must remain a nation under the control of “Christ Centered people” , capturing control of the metro area containing a historical city with roots in the Colonial period, revolution and Civil War is very important to them. There’s no chance they can take over New York, Boston, Baltimore or Philadelphia.  Charleston is their only available target. Our region, embedded in and surrounded by a right wing, red state is essential to them symbolically as a future stage for a national takeover.

This insight developed from talking to front line workers in our area’s historic community who have been encountering increasing numbers of aggressive tourists eager to confront them and correct the “mistaken” beliefs they’ve acquired from years of professional work and research using the rich troves of original material available in the city, much of which has become available thanks to modern electronic indexing. A major effort to deepen understanding of the American Revolution on its 250th. Anniversary is at hand. Given what we’ve been learning, there is a lot of stuff out there Unity City would want to suppress.

Revised page on our Arts & Culture working group now online.

We’re aware of another Unity City type effort launched in Detroit which clearly targets rust belt social issues, but they came to Charleston to capture control of the past.

Dorchester Waylyn CARTA Bus to the Beach Trip Saturday

Best Friends of Lowcountry Transit is one of DiversCity's founding organizations and it's volunteers have provided much of the muscle which has pushed our organizing effort forward through the summer. On Saturday they'll lead children and adults from the Dorchester Waylyn community in N. Charleston on a 1 hour and 46 minute journey to the beach, all on Transit. Help is needed with snacks and drinks and helping get progress of the effort out online. The reward is a trip where some of the young people may see the Atlantic Ocean for the first time in their lives. The weather is iffy. CARTA can be unreliable. It shouldn't be this hard, but dreams are earned by the determined. You'll can ride along or follow the trip online. Everyone's welcome. https://www.facebook.com/events/496239996150638?active_tab=about

Education Meeting Online Sunday Evening

We plan to join the Quality Education Projects Sunday evening meeting on their plans for addressing the tremendous and draining struggle for control of local school systems. Our working group will connect with several existing efforts. The current tactics of mass presence at meetings aren’t sustainable, though they’ve prevented a huge amount of damage. However the cost to the community in time sacrificed from other local efforts is starving Charleston’s human economic and social justice efforts. This was an intended result of Mom’s for Liberty’s attack on Education. Join online at 7 pm Sunday, Facebook Event Listing

Science and Technology Group Organizing

Look for information next week about the effort to organize our Science and Technology group, which also included medicine.

Labor Day Effort in Planning

DiversCity will hit the road on Labor Day, visiting progressive events around the Lowcountry. If your planning something, let us know and our team will work out a time to visit. You can sign on to a Facebook event page to follow plans as they develop.

Communications

We’re looking for input on people’s experience with the Mobilze platform. Please let us know how it has performed for your organization. Email wjhamilton29464@gmail.com or call (843) 870-5299 with your input. Recurring problems with Facebook experienced by us and other local activist organizations indicate it would be very dysfunctional to continue our primary reliance upon it as an organizing platform. The Dominionist right has deployed an army of hactivists to shut down progressive access to Facebook and other platforms by flooding their automated systems with complaints about our activities. The day before our July organizing event, both William Hamilton and Thomas Dixon were locked out of posting for over a day and for most of the previous week. It impossible to tell why we were locked out. These systems are almost entire automated and if you file enough complaints, they'll act on them.

How We'll Defend our Hummocks

Defending Our Lowcountry's Seven Hummocks

How We Will Defend Our DiversCity

Read the Press Release Announcing our Organizational Plan to the Community as we move towards July 14.

Unity City, Moms for Liberty and the other Christian Dominationist organizations working together to take over our community, organize themselves around the seven mountains of influence doctrine, an anti biblical plan which justifies Dominionists abandoning the teachings of Jesus to achieve coercive secular power over the people of the SC Lowcountry. This violates the US Constitution and the teachings of the New Testament.

Image, Left, by Tate Nation, featured on our current outreach card. 2500 are being distributed throughout the Lowcountry between now and July 14

It also violates geography. There are no mountains here. Ours is a flat, moist land mingled with the sea. Our green marshes are dotted with hummocks, small mounds, usually associated with freshwater springs and covered with wax myrtle bushes which are a haven for life, refuge from the heat and saltiness of our vast marshes. We have no mountains to defend, but we’ll fight for our hummocks.

Image, Right, pedestrian accessible hummock at Shem Creek Park, Mt. Pleasant, SC, USA. This hummock has been claimed as they symbolic home of the Administrative team

Our organizational structure, like our land, is flat and fertile. Seven working groups form a council of nine with one vote from each working group and one from Administration and Communications/Fundraising. Each working group has 3-5 expert members well connected to and be highlynowledgeable about their sector/hummock. Instead of a hierarchy funded with right wing money from out of state, ultimately sourced from billionaires who could care less about any kind of religion (the false Gods of the right), our organization will call up resources from the organizations connected to our network through their working group/sector/hummock. Each working group will lead a small rapid response force or trained people who can connect with and mobilize their part of the community.

We’ll build on and connect the power the Lowcountry already has, which is massive. We won’t sneak into organizations to compromise them, we’ll bring them together with honesty and vision to save our Hummocks, our Lowcountry. (There will be T-shirts.) We know we will come together, with some bickering, because this is our land.

Our first effort will be to staff the seven working groups and draft the Lowcountry Declaration of Resistance so that we can present them and sign the declaration on Bastille Day, Sunday, July 14 at a celebration of human freedom, DiversCity and hope. We’ll also read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that night.

We cannot save America from SC. That battle will take place elsewhere. We may not be able to save South Carolina. We shall hold this blue island, our Lowcountry, our home.

Here are the Seven Hummocks and the status of Organization of Each. Contact info will be inserted here when each group is fully organized and ready to begin operation.

Lowcountry Up is Good, PAC, Inc. will control the effort until January, 2025 when DiversCity will become self-governing. Effort until then will focus on training, fundraising to support efforts to build and sustain resistance, and local elections.

Citizens Plan Protest at CCSD Board Member Kelly's House to Force In Person Attendance at Meetings

Citizens to Protest School Board Members Remote Control Presence at Meetings at His Home in Mt. Pleasant

From
Lowcountry Up is Good, PAC, Inc.  To         Lowcountry Press & Media

Date June 22, 2024

Mount Pleasant, SC, USA- Charleston County School Board member Ed Kelly’s home in Carolina Park, a development in Mt. Pleasant near Wando High School will become the setting for a sidewalk protest on Monday, June 24 should Kelly choose, again to participate in another board meeting over the internet instead of occupying his chair at CCSD Headquarters,  75 Calhoun Street. The demonstration is sponsored by Lowcountry Up is Good, PAC. Inc.

Sympathetic participants can sign up to participate in the demonstration and adjacent social gathering on eventbright at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dont-chicken-out-show-up-ed-kelly-protest-party-tickets-929641963137?aff=oddtdtcreator

  • The sidewalk in front of Kelly’s home will become a free speech zone with up to 20 people holding signs, chanting and singing. The theme of the demonstration is Don’t Chicken Out Ed Kelly. The protest will be paired with an adjacent social.  The pot luck supper at the party will consist of any chicken but Chick-fil-A, salad and desert.

The homes of 49 of Kelly’s neighbors, everyone living within 500 feet of his house, received a written notice of the demonstration on June 20 in a doorknob hanger bag which also contained information on DiversCity and a small package of gummy bears. One resident was hostile. Another demanded that DiversCity never visit her home again. However, several residents were very excited about the demonstration and are eager to become involved. You can read the notice online.

There are no plans to block vehicular or pedestrian traffic. A Mt. Pleasant Police presence is anticipated. A safety plan for a constitutionally lawful and peaceful protest will be drafted to be shared with the police department and the community.

CCSD Board meetings have become dysfunctional, oppressive horror shows. Ed Kelly was removed from Chairmanship of the CCSD board last year after allegations that he threatened a transgender staff member with armed violence. Some meetings have been over six hours long and contain lengthy secret executive sessions. A major controversy looms over the board Monday with new allegations of misappropriation of Covid funds, a cover up and racially biased treatment of an alleged whistleblower. The board also has to conduct a public hearing and attempt to pass a budget, which Kelly has been stalling by fighting a pay increase for teachers.

This demonstration is part of the DiversCity Charleston project, a coordinated resistance to the attempt by Moms for LIberty, Unity City and other right wing religious groups to take over public life in the SC Lowcountry. DiversCity will network existing progressive and tolerance celebrating organizations and faith communities across the Lowcountry to strengthen and maintain our community’s imperfect, but enduring 350 year tradition of acceptance and freedom.

For more information on DiversCity Charleston contact spokesperson Merrill Chapman at (843) 200-1977 or William Hamilton at (843) 870-5299. More information can be found at https://tinyurl.com/DiversCityCHS  online.
